Is this the best I
can do?
At the moment, yes, it seems so.
There are a few things here however:
-
I've updated my biking section with some interesting studies on commute times for bicycles in urban areas. If you like to bike already this can provide you some rational arguments for doing so. I just do it because I like to.
-
A paper
on the use of open licensing by the US Government.
This means I think the government should use and produce more open
source software. I also think
it should release all its documents under open
content licensing.
Incidently, I've gotten LOTS of positive feedback on
this (thanks everyone and keep the great ideas and case studies coming). When OSD finishes updating the 5000 series regs I'll update my paper as well.
-
On a related note, I've begun to accumulate links to information on governments which use or
support the use of open source- or don't.
-
A short tutorial
on the use of various C & C++ programming tools under Unix. If you're
just starting out with BSD, Linux or any form of Unix you may find this
helpful. It's meant to be easy to read and includes some examples to help
jump start what can seem a daunting process.
-
An older article on using a intranet to make the information on all an
organization's computers available to everyone. The system still works
great and it's a pretty neat demonstration of how existing, disparate systems
can be easily integrated. Check it
out.
-
An interview
with Sam Williams of the San Francisco Examiner and Upside.com. He
talked with me about how the Government might make use of Open Source.
If you know someone important, you might show them the print
version of the article. People tend to believe things that are in
print.
-
(Updated) I spoke at Linuxworld in February. If you are interested, here's the presentation
here -
Please let me know what you think of it. If you'd like a copy of the actual presentation, just drop me
an email. A word in advance, the slides are rendered as JPEGS
at 800x600- you may want to enlarge your browser window before you view the presentation.
- At the advice of Philip Greenspun I've added some
personal
info to this my personal web page.
If you have any suggestions, corrections or ideas on any of these things,
please feel free to let me know. I'm all ears- those of you who have seen
me "live" know how true this is:)
